Work Performed: This was a work party organized to pull Purple Hounds Tongue along the Swamp Park Trail. The turnaround point was the meadow at the intersection of Elk Park Trail with the Swamp Park Trail at the crossing of Mad Creek. There has been a serious increase of this noxious weed along the trail and an exposion of it in the meadow.
Trailhead: Mad Creek
Destination Areas: Intersection of Swamp Park and Elk Park Trails
Comments: We were fortunate to get this job done before the plants went to seed. We dug up the plants including the roots, cut off the heads and bagged them, and hauled the bags out. A long, hot but very rewarding day.

Fire Rings
Trash
Greeting and information
Trailhead: North Lake
Destination Areas: North Lake and beyond
Comments: Trail is in great condition except for
very muddy area below creek crossing. It
was difficult to cross with \”some\” horses
and no access around it. It is probably
6 feet at widest point. Perhaps there is a
way to divert some of the water or create better crossing. It is now July 20 and still very difficult to cross–didn\’t look like it would dry up anytime soon.

Work Performed: Trash pick up
Meet and Greet!
Trailhead: 1123 and 1117
Destination Areas: Pyramid and Sand Lake
Comments: On 1123
One tree which blocks horses–not hikers. It
had to be skirted around. Other tree down and
again makes horse passage very difficult. Both are within 500-700 yds from trail head
and both fairly large. About 1/4 miles
beyond Sand and Crater Lake it was very wet
and muddy for horse passage. I only went
up 1117 about two miles.

Work Performed: Solo back pack to access conditions at and beyond 3 Island Lake. Detached tree upright in middle of trail short distance below Wilderness boundary could be dangerous in windy conditions, suggest removal. Three Island creek crossing above lake slightly over knee deep and easy. Still some snow drifts and there are several downed trees enroute to the divide. Visited with several day hikers and anglers. There is standing water in the meadows and the mosquitos are bad. As for a fishing report, I caught a few Brookies in Three Island Lake, Elk Hair Caddis fished dry yielded good results.
Trailhead: Three Island 1163
Destination Areas: Three Island Lake
Comments: I encountered only two other back packers all others were day hikers. One hiker from philadelphia had completed the Zirkel Circle on Saturday and had made the trip to Beaver Lake on Sunday he was enjoying the Wilderness and making the most of his Colorado vacation.
